Sharif, Lynch: Architecture is an award-winning design practice focused on empirically informed, climate-resilient metropolitan buildings and spaces across various typologies, including single- and multi-family housing, workspaces, and places for rest and recreation. We lead projects independently and collaboratively, synthesizing form, technology, environment, and context to create transformative and aspirational settings. We also focus on research and development of innovative, compact prototypes and sustainable construction systems for the emergent post-R-1/SB-9 Los Angeles cityscape, whose fabric demands innovative, enjoyable combinations of density and porosity.
Our long-standing service as public research university faculty and our relationships with significant cultural and professional institutions and councils underscore our relevance to broader public and professional realms. Through writing, lectures, and appointments as critics, curators, moderators, planners, and peer reviewers, we affirm our ethos: architects who aspire to inspire must first be engaged citizens.
In 2024, the AIA Los Angeles Board of Directors Jury endorsed our approach to teaching, research, and practice in their comments when bestowing the Emerging Practice Award: “As UCLA professors, Sharif and Lynch blend architectural practice with academic theory, addressing pressing urban issues like housing and density in LA. Their innovative projects, grounded in thorough research and practical application, have garnered multiple AIA Awards and are making a significant impact on the city.”
